The Beneteau group is selling more boats than ever; now all they need are workers to build them | News
CADILLAC — The Beneteau group has never been busier, with boat orders coming in from all over North America.
Kelly Cater, North American director of human resources for the Beneteau Group, said that since the start of the pandemic, sales have exploded as people seek to get out on the water and enjoy the outdoors in a way that also allows them to socially distance themselves.
Even with ongoing pricing complications that have slowed things down in their European markets, Cater said their dealerships are currently seeing more customer traffic than they have ever experienced.
In particular, Cater said its Four Winns H4 model, which was introduced over the summer, has been flying off the shelves in recent weeks.
There are a lot of boats to make but there is a major problem: they don’t have enough workers to make them.
At the Cadillac plant, Cater said it has a 12-month backlog largely due to a labor shortage.
Although it was difficult to keep people on staff even before the pandemic, Cater said that time was a walk in the park compared to now.
With so many orders coming in, Cater said they would love to be able to expand their production capacity. To do this, however, they will need more workers.
Cater said that in an ideal world, she would like to hire around 80 more people to work at the Cadillac plant, although she is considering the more realistic goal of 40 new hires at a job fair this weekend. end.
A variety of full-time and part-time positions are available, including welders, carpenters, fiberglass repair specialists, engineers, and accountants, to name a few. .
With federal unemployment benefits expiring, Cater said they are already starting to see more claims being submitted; they hope this trend will continue.
In addition to a competitive salary and benefits, Cater said the Beneteau Group also offers monthly incentives, flexible hours and a boat use program for all employees.
Cater said the Beneteau Group holds job fairs throughout the year to give potential employees a chance to tour the plant and get an idea of what they would do if hired. .
The Saturday job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Group Beneteau Cruiser factory, located at 609 W. 13th St.
