Geauga Park District sets dates to reopen ‘ropes and boats’ leisure offerings – News-Herald

Geauga Park District will reopen its “ropes and boats” recreation offerings for the season on May 28.

New this year, the Claridon Woodlands ropes course now offers less rushed adventures with slightly larger groups and more time on the course, with platforms 32 feet off the ground, connected by eight challenge elements of 23 at 32 feet long, and a 100-foot-long zipline exit, according to a press release.

This season, tree climbing will be open for one and a half hour sessions on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.; and Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Admission is free for all Geauga County residents with ID and $20 for out-of-county residents (credit card only, pay on site).

To make a reservation, which is highly recommended, check availability, learn about age requirements and weight restrictions, and more, read the information posted on the district park website in advance.

Those who don’t want such a grand or planned adventure can try Claridon Woodlands’ 12-foot-tall, 900-square-foot freeform rock wall, with new routes and special rock holds, the statement said.

Claridon Woodlands is located at 11383 Claridon Troy Road in Chardon.

Those in the mood for a warm-weather adventure on the water can head to the Boathouse at Headwaters Park to borrow kayaks and canoes on a first-come, first-served basis, the statement said. New this year, two pedal boats that can accommodate up to four people are also available to borrow for an hour at a time.

This season, the park’s limited number of kayaks, canoes and paddle boats will be available to borrow on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last outings at 4 p.m. and Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., last departures at 6 p.m.

Residents of Geauga County can borrow boats for free with ID; out-of-county residents must pay $5 per hour for adults, $3 per hour for children 12 and under, $8 for tandem and $16 for paddle boats (credit card only, payment on square). The life jackets provided must be worn at all times.

For more information, read the information posted on the park district website in advance. Headwaters Park is located at 13365 Old State Road in Huntsburg Township.
