Drowning on Lake Lanier Holiday Marina | Search Kaiyan Ding

The 29-year-old sank near Holiday Marina on Saturday.

HALL COUNTY, Georgia – Search and rescue teams face rough waters as they work to recover the body of a drowning victim.

At around 2 p.m. Saturday, the Hall County Fire and Rescue Department responded to a report of a man, identified as 29-year-old Kaiyan Ding, who had fallen overboard from a boat near Holiday Marina on Lake Lanier.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) law enforcement game wardens arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and the two agencies began searching for Ding with SONAR in water ranging from 60 to 100 feet, an agency spokesperson said.

“Heavy boat traffic in the area as well as choppy conditions made the search difficult, but game wardens continued the search through the night,” Lt. Judd Smith said. “Underwater standing timber makes the search more difficult.”

He said crews returned Sunday morning and continued the search “until all options have been exhausted”.
