Barletta Pontoon Boats, a brand new pontoon boat company located in Bristol, Indiana, recently passed two “centuries” of its still young operating history.
The company hired its 100th crewmate in the second week of April, and then the following week billed its 100th pontoon boat.
Incorporated in June 2017, and starting actual boat production at the end of December 2017, Barletta quickly responded to the call from pontoon boat dealers and customers.
With an ambitious goal of building 1,000 boats in calendar year 2018, Barletta was forced to truncate what many believed to be a long product development and launch cycle, while hiring a workforce that would correspond to the philosophy of Bill Fenech, president and co-owner.
“There are many in this industry – competing manufacturers, dealers and supplier partners – who have said it can’t be done,” Fenech said. “I would be lying if I said this team didn’t use this as ‘scoreboard material’ to push harder and faster.”
What is most impressive, according to Fenech, is that the team not only achieved their goal of having units on the ground by January 2018, but did so without sacrificing core values as maker.
“We didn’t just build another ‘copy-cat, me too’ pontoon boat – we built the pontoon boat we wanted to build. Every part of our pontoon boats was a conscious decision with the end user’s on-water experience in mind, ”said Fenech. “A thousand boats is an absolutely aggressive goal, but not unreachable. “We have an incredibly dedicated and passionate team, who support and are supported by one of the best dealer networks in the country. The synergy we have created so early in our life cycle is impressive and humbling to say the least. “
